About
Well Charged is a new Reggae/Rocksteady/Ska band based in Charleston SC.

Biography
Based out of Charleston, SC, Well Charged formed over a shared love for vintage reggae, rocksteady, and ska music. With over 50 years combined experience performing Jamaican rhythms, their style is a faithful nod to the early pioneers of Caribbean music – Alton Ellis, Desmond Dekker, and Prince Buster, to name a few.

Well Charged’s core instrumentation includes bass, drums, keyboards, and guitar. Founding members John Picard (drums) and Vasily Punsalan (bass) began their journey as a duo, backing John Brown’s Body’s Kevin Kinsella over a decade ago. Their time spent traveling and performing, including a stint in Jamaica, created a wealth of experience, echoed in the nuance of their performance. Upon returning to the Lowcountry, Picard met David Hillis (keys) after noticing some patches sewn to his jacket. The group invited Andrew Link Krepelka (guitar, vocals), a longtime ska reggae musician, shortly thereafter, and lead singer Megg Howe from NYC (Rude Boy George, Across The Aisle) in 2018.

The band released their debut EP in October 2018. The 4 song record was tracked by Carl Blackmon (Signal Fire) at Lift Up Records in Wilmington, NC and mixed and mastered by ska revivalist Jayson Nugent (The Slackers) in New York City. Featured on the release, Well Charged is frequently accompanied by a horn section, percussionist, and guest vocalists.
